Chemical Awareness (AQF 2)

Objectives

This program has been developed in response to demand from a wide range of pesticide users including community groups, volunteer bush regenerators and home gardeners who use small quantities of pesticides either at home or under supervision in the workplace.

The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the potential hazards and risks associated with pesticide use and to provide practical information with regards to safe chemical handling and application.

Course participants will be provided with tuition and examples to help them understand chemical labels and Materials Safety Data Sheets.

In addition this course introduces pesticide users to the principles of calibration. Participants will be expected to calibrate a piece of hand held equipment such as a knapsack and drench gun / injectable.

Competency Standards

  • Level 1 - RTC1701A - Follow basic chemical safety rules
  • Level 2 - RTC2706A - Apply chemicals under supervision

Participants who successfully complete the assessment requirements of this course will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance issued by ChemCert and a Statement of Attainment from participating Registered Training Organisations.

This course is aligned to the national farm chemical competency standards at AQF Level 2.

Participants requiring ChemCert Accreditation (AQF 3) can apply to have their skills and knowledge in farm chemical use recognised after successfully completing this course.
